I am shocked! Even though she is going to be 19, I never thought she would part with her! I am so excited!

She is in bad shape. I think we bought her in 1994 or 95. Her hair is frizzy and dirty, but has never been cut. Our dog got a hold of her and ripped her poor body. My dd sewed her back together with big red stitches when she was about 11 years old. They are really dear! Her meet outfit has really seen better days,it is quite worn out. One of her shoes is broken. She has lost her necklace, socks, handerchief, undies, and hair ribbons.
This is what I think I am going to do with her:
    Replace her body:
First I will take pics of my dd's sewing job, as it is too cute.
    Downey dunk:
I think her hair can be brought back to life with this method as it has never been cut and it doesn't seem overly thin.
    New meet outfit:
Get all the replacements I can as this outfit is worn out.

    BIG QUESTION:
Do I replace the body myself or send her to the doll hospital for a replacement? If I send her in, will they just replace the body and leave everything else intact? She is pre-mattel, so I don't want to lose her head or anything. I am a dollmaker, so I am pretty confident I could do a decent job of remaking the cloth body and getting her restrung.
    What do you think?
MY PLAN is to get her all fixed up and beautiful again, and then hang on to her until my dd has a daughter of her own one day! Then I will have a really special gift to give!

If you want to send her in for a new body, I would remove her head (this would eliminate the risk of them accidently replacing the head) and send a note that you want a body replacement only, and that you want to keep the same limbs. Also tell them that you do not want them to add a new head, that you kept the head to make sure it wasn't replaced. I might also call CS and have them write a note in your file so when the hospital looks it up it will make sense what you did and what you want. Good luck with your restoration, it should be fun!

If you could remake the body then she would keep her PM limbs. Couldn't you try that then if it doesn't work send her in for a new body? Or could you find a fixer-upper on ebay and use the body as a donor but restring it using her old limbs? I'm not really into the whole PM vs. Mattel issue but I know when we sent mt nieces Bitty in for eye repair and she came back with a new head it just didn't seem like her doll anymore. When DD's got silver eye I knew from the board to be very specific in my request to the hospital. I asked for eyes only and we were very pleased with the results. Maybe you could send it in and ask for the old parts back then do the body/limb swap. Sorry this is so long. Let us know what you decide and how she turns out.

Wow those are some really good suggestions, and some options I hadn't even thought of. Perhaps I will try to redo her body myself and if it doesn't work out send it in, minus the limbs and head? Hmmm...I'll have to think about this. I will most likely downey dunk her first thing and see how that works out, and then go from there.
